Jon is the editor of Sports Compare. He writes and maintains our guides to UK free bets and betting offers, and he checks our offer pages against the bookmakers’ terms. This page explains what Jon does and how he approaches the content on our site.

- Keeps our free bets comparison up to date when offers are added, changed or withdrawn.
- Checks the estimated values we show against our published rating method.
- Keeps our free tools accurate, such as the odds checker and the live odds comparison.
How Jon reviews an offer
First, Jon reads the bookmaker’s terms and conditions in full, rather than relying on the headline. Next, he works out how much you need to stake, the minimum odds, which markets count and any limits on the free bets or winnings.
After that, he writes the steps in plain English, so that you can follow them without re-reading the small print. Finally, each offer gets a difficulty and risk rating, together with an estimated value. As a result, you can compare very different offers quickly and choose the ones that suit you.
Our approach
We aim to explain offers clearly and honestly, including the risks. For that reason, every guide makes it clear that betting involves real money and that you can lose. Offers also change often, so Jon updates our pages whenever a bookmaker changes its terms.
